Parental Information

As a parent it’s natural that you would want to be assured of their child’s safety and welfare wherever they are. As an organisation we are committed to ensuring that our youth members learn, develop and have fun in a safe and secure environment. To this end we have developed robust child protection, recruitment and selection policies and procedures. These policies and procedures are consistent with National child protection policy and with good practice guidelines in the Youth Work sector in the Republic and in Northern Ireland.

Our ‘Code of Good Practice’ outlines our child protection policies and procedures. We are happy to discuss any queries you may have in relation to the implementation of these procedures.

Garda Vetting

All new applicant Scouters go through a vetting process. Applicant Scouters must provide 2 references and must go through formal police checking (Garda Vetting or Access Northern Ireland checking). In addition, all new Scouters must undertake a child protection training course during their Induction period. This training is accredited and monitored by the National Youth Council of Ireland.

Scouting Ireland is a registered organisation with the Garda Central Vetting Unit in Thurles, Co Tipperary.

Present History

We have a Cub and Scout section in Dungarvan at the moment. As of September 2011, Dungarvan Scouts is open to BOYS AND GIRLS. Our aim is to strengthen these sections as much as we can before opening up to beavers and venturers. We are currently residing in the Presentation Community Centre on Mitchell Street Dungarvan but have luckily been granted funding to construct a new scout den at Quanns, Dungarvan. The new den will be built onto the East side of the current sports centre but will be totally independent from it. The expectation is that the new den will be complete by September 2012.
